Carlos believes each person has an important, formative story with unique strengths that need to be shared. Just as he enjoys melding ingredients and luring flavors out of the meals he crafts for his closest friends, Carlos listens for the full story of his clients, coaxing their special qualities and abilities out into the light so that they can see the full picture of who they can be. Then he walks alongside them as they become that version of themselves—one that gives their best to those around them. With empathy and attentiveness, Carlos’ approach to coaching is one of balance where all areas of business and life are addressed so that full potential can be realized.

Prior to joining Building Champions in 2021, Carlos worked in higher education at Portland Bible College holding a variety of roles in the areas of Human Resources, Administration, Student Services and Advancement. He served as Administrator for nearly 13 years before moving into the position of Vice President of Advancement. Also, Carlos lectured as an Adjunct Professor teaching courses in Finance, Theology and Personal Discipline. Previously he worked at both George Fox University and the Peter Drucker & Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management.

As a disciple of Peter Drucker, Carlos believes, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Carlos carries this core belief into his coaching; helping clients craft the future they see in their minds and beyond.

Carlos is an ICF certified coach. He also earned an MBA from George Fox University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Biola University. He is married to Clarissa, and they have two daughters, one away at college and one at home. Carlos was born in Mexico City, Mexico, raised in Los Angeles, California and currently resides in Portland, Oregon, where he has lived since 2003. He serves as an elder at Mannahouse Church, a multi-ethnic and multi-generational church established in 1951 and sits on the Board of Directors for SetPath, a community benefit non-profit that impacts America’s future leaders. Carlos enjoys cooking, traveling, strength-training and spending time with friends and family—especially over a tasty meal he has created.
