Jim Hunter
Executive Coach
Jim Hunter is an Executive Coach at Building Champions who helps senior leaders, sales executives, and business owners strengthen their leadership, build healthy teams, and lead with greater clarity and intentionality. With decades of experience in executive leadership, sales management, regional operations, business development, and team development, Jim brings practical wisdom and real-world perspective to his coaching.
Before joining Building Champions, Jim spent more than 25 years with Cornerstone Home Lending, where he served as President of the Mountain West Division and Regional Senior Vice President. In these roles, he oversaw loan production across Colorado, Kansas, Arizona, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana and New Mexico, leading production offices, managing regional and branch profitability, guiding growth strategies, and developing teams across multiple markets.
Jim’s career in mortgage and financial services began over 35 years ago as a Loan Originator with ICM Mortgage and grew to include senior leadership roles with Circle One Mortgage Company (First National Bank of Omaha), First Colorado Mortgage, American National Bank, and Mortgage Associates/Northwood’s Mortgage. Across these organizations, he built and led production teams, recruited and trained loan originators, launched new branches, managed budgets and profitability, and strengthened relationships across internal teams and external partners.
Earlier in his career, Jim served as a Project Manager for Dickinson-Heffner, a commercial real estate developer, where he coordinated design and leasing projects and served on the executive management team. This experience gave him a strong foundation in operations, client relationships, project management, and cross-functional leadership.
In addition to his professional career, Jim believes in serving his industry and the communities where he lives and works. This personal commitment led him to roles with the Colorado Mortgage Lenders Association (CMLA) as President of the Board of Directors and later Chairman of the Board of Governors. Jim’s community involvement included serving as President of Colorado State Universities RAM Club and currently is on the Advisory Board of Institute of Built Environment’s (IBE) Lifelong Communities program.
As a coach, Jim draws from his extensive leadership experience to help leaders navigate complexity, make better decisions, build stronger teams, improve performance, and lead with greater purpose. His practical business background, relational approach, and firsthand understanding of executive leadership allow him to connect with leaders in a meaningful way and help them identify the habits, decisions, and strategies needed to move forward. His personal life vision is a world where commitment is the promise, honesty is the code, integrity is the practice, and faith is the connection.
Jim and his wife reside in Fort Collins, Colorado. Outside of work, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife, three adult sons, two adult stepsons, five daughters-in-law, and 10 grandchildren. He can also be found on the golf course or running trails.
